This has been a rough morning.
I broke my coffee carafe. Why do they call these things “carafes”? I cracked the thing and I can’t find a replacement (it is expired). I pulled out an old coffee maker and proceeded to carry on. First, my newer coffee maker grinds and brews. This one does not. I grinded in a separate machine and the coffee ended up being like water (because I am used to what I put in the grinder-n-brew version) and the grounds overflowed over the filter. What a mess. I cleaned it up. Then I realized, “well, the filter is too little” so I put a cone type big filter in there. Well, it did not like that and overflowed and what a mess. By this time, I’ve wasted $20 worth of coffee and filters and water and made a mess several times. This is right before we are supposed to leave for church. I made one last pot with the little filter, perfectly measured the amount, and let it do its thing.
This was a big church moment in the morning for me. I had several flute and piccolo parts. A song we sang this morning called “Nobody Loves Me Like You” (Chris Tomlin did it if you search You Tube).
~~~“Morning, ~~I see you in the sunrise every morning,” ~~ it’s like a picture that you’ve painted for me…A love letter in the sky”
Okay, well, I must dwell on this song because…I had several incidences before church THIS MORNING. One, was the coffee fiasco. The second was….I put on a pair of really cool shoes. I mean, cool bright gold and green with a gold tint, hadn’t worn them for several years but hadn’t hardly worn them. So, to match my outfit, I wore them this morning. I walked into our church proud and behind me (little did I know), the shoes were disintegrating. I literally left a path of “pigpen“ behind me. Everyone knew where I had walked. The service was about to begin. Needless to say, I was to play my flute as the lead “prelude” song before everything started. My pastor looked at me in a horrified fashion and I said, “show me the vacuum cleaner”. He proceeded in his focused-unfocused brain to pull out the vacuum cleaner. I took it over with the help of my “sissy” best church friend, Cindi, to plug and unplug as I swept up my mess. May I say, during the time our famous church pianist, Alice, was playing her piano preludes (as usually beautiful and “drowned by the sound of the vacuum cleaner). Within 1 minute of the service, I was able to catch my breath and pick up my flute for the prelude and play.
When my heart finally caught up with my breath, we played “Nobody Love Me Like You” and it opens up with “morning”, I see you in the sunrise every morning…”.
Okay, so, …..I saw Him this morning, I laughed, the pastor laughed, and I know God laughed with me. No matter how messed up I am, God is there for me and I thank Him that He gives us laughter when we could totally be mad and upset. He has taught me laughter.
Hilarious, Gail! We have ALL had those moments! I’m glad you were able to find the humor & laugh about it! Jesus wants us to laugh & be joyful so this was a perfect Sunday morning to praise Him!! Love you sis!!
I love the disintegrating shoe story…something that has happened to me a number of times since living in Florida.
One time someone gave me golf shoes that looked brand new — after playing 18 holes, I found it difficult to walk
in the parking lot because the sole of one shoe was GONE. Probably the golf shoes sat in the garage several years before
I got them!
